2024 Polls: Unite or Perish -Prof Ameyaw-Akumfi warns NPP

Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, a member of the National Council of Elders of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has cautioned that the party may face dissolution if members do not come together ahead of the 2024 general elections.

He emphasized the necessity of unity among NPP members, voicing apprehension that ongoing internal conflicts could adversely affect the party’s electoral chances.

His advice is in response to the party’s National Chairman, Stephen Ntim, extending an olive branch to Independent Candidate Kwabena Owusu Aduomi after the Ejisu by-election.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi backed Mr. Ntim’s decision, proposing that such reconciliation initiatives should have been undertaken right after the party’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

Mr. Aduomi, after encountering issues with the delegates’ album, departed from the NPP to campaign as an Independent Candidate. He fiercely competed against the NPP’s candidate, Kwabena Boateng, who eventually emerged victorious during the Ejisu by-election on April 30.

In a conversation with Techiman-based Asta FM on Wednesday, May 1, he stated, “I was touched by the statement from our national chairman about his resolve to reach out to Aduomi. I feel these reconciliation efforts could have been done long ago especially during the aftermath of the presidential and parliamentary elections, but it is not too late. The writing is on the wall. NPP needs to unite or perish.”
