A 33-year-old mobile money vendor has been shot dead by unidentified persons at Manso-Asamang in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti Region. The deceased, Augustine Mensah, was reportedly called by one of his customers to perform a transaction after closing for the day on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. However, he was shot by unidentified persons while returning home after attending to the customer. A passerby rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Gatwick second runway decision
The government has signalled that plans to bring a second runway at Gatwick into regular use will get the green light if environmental conditions are met. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander said she was “minded to approve” the airport’s plans, but the deadline for a decision has now been pushed back until the end of October. The main stumbling blocks facing Gatwick’s proposals are related to its provisions for noise prevention and public transport. KNUST student remanded over
21-year-old final-year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Daniel Tuffuor, has been remanded into police custody in connection with the alleged murder of Joana Deladem Yabani, also a final-year student at the university. Tuffuor was arrested on Thursday, February 27, 2025, following the discovery of Joana’s lifeless body on campus earlier that morning. The university’s security service was alerted to the incident and subsequently reported it to the police. International Development Minister Anneliese Dodds has resigned over the prime minister’s cuts to the aid budget. In a letter to the prime minister, Dodds said the cuts to international aid, announced earlier this week to fund an increase in defence spending, would “remove food and healthcare from desperate people – deeply harming the UK’s reputation”. More rescuers join search
Operations have continued for the seventh day to rescue several workers who remained trapped in a partially collapsed tunnel in southern India. More heavy equipment has been deployed to hasten the search as India’s South Central Railway announced on Friday that its rescue team had joined the mission to locate the trapped workers in the town of Nagarkurnool in Telangana state. Dozens arrested in global
At least 25 arrests have been made during a worldwide operation against child abuse images generated by artificial intelligence (AI), the European Union’s law enforcement organisation Europol has said. The suspects were part of a criminal group whose members engaged in distributing fully AI-generated images of minors, according to the agency. The operation is one of the first involving such child sexual abuse material (CSAM), Europol says.
