Parliament has officially asked the President’s Office to specify a date for the transmission of the Human Sexual and Family Values Bill for the President’s approval.
This development follows a request from Nana Bediatuo Asante, President Akufo-Addo’s secretary, on March 18, asking Parliament to hold off on presenting the bill, also known as the anti-LGBT+ bill, to the President.
He stated that this request was made while awaiting the resolution of related issues currently before the Supreme Court. In a letter dated April 10, 2024, the Clerk to Parliament, Cyril K. O. Nsiah, acknowledged the request from the President’s office to pause the bill’s progression.
However, the clerk requested the President’s office to select a date when Parliament could present the bill to the President for his review.
“Accordingly, I await an indication in writing from your office on when to present the Human Sexual and Family Value Bill, 2024 to His Excellency the President for his consideration, pursuant to Article 106(7) of the Constitution, 1992” the letter read.
