Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has inaugurated 124 homes as part of the reconstruction project in Appiatse.
This initiative was a response to the catastrophic events of January 2022, which devastated the community and resulted in the loss of 16 residents’ lives.
All beneficiaries of the first and second phases of the project expressed their satisfaction with the results, showing their gratitude.
Appiatse, located between Bogoso and Bawdie in the Prestea Huni-Valley Municipality of the Western Region, has undergone a transformation after enduring the aftermath of a tragedy.
More than 120 housing units have been completed, providing a new beginning and renewed hope to the farming community. This marks a significant milestone two years after the disaster.
In January 2022, a vehicle transporting about 10 tonnes of mining explosives to the Chirano Mines collided with a motorcycle. This resulted in the detonation of the explosives, leading to the destruction of the entire community.
Following the unfortunate incident, the government promptly initiated the reconstruction process. This has led to the completion of 124 housing units and auxiliary facilities for the survivors.
The newly constructed structures, which range from one-bedroom to seven-bedroom units, are equipped with improved facilities. These include a market, six-unit classroom and kindergarten blocks, inner roads, water and electricity supply, a drainage system, and a water storage system.
