Kufour slams NDC for abandoning his unfinished projects

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has slammed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government for abandoning critical projects that were left unfinished at the end of his tenure.

Speaking to the press in Accra on Sunday, November 17, Kufuor expressed disappointment over the failure of the NDC to continue key initiatives, citing the Accra-Kumasi Highway and the Affordable Housing Project in Asokore Mampong, both of which he had launched but could not complete before leaving office.

Kufuor attributed the stalling of these projects to the change in government in 2008, when the NDC came to power following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) electoral defeat. He argued that the shift in leadership resulted in a lack of continuity in governance, which led to the abandonment of vital national projects that were meant to benefit the public.

“The change of government in 2008 really affected us due to the lack of continuity. We had plans to continue our projects, but they were stalled,” Kufuor explained. “Our brothers in the NDC, who took over power, had a different ideology from ours.”

He singled out the Asokore Mampong Affordable Housing Project and the Accra-Kumasi roadworks as examples of initiatives that were left unfinished.

The former President emphasized the need for continuity in governance, regardless of which party is in power, to ensure efficient use of state resources.

“Change of government in 2008 really affected us due to lack of continuity, because we had plans of continuing projects. But they were stalled. Our brothers in the NDC which took over power had a different ideology from ours.

“So they abandoned most of our projects. Asokore Mampong, the Affordable Housing projects we started were all abandoned. Accra to Kumasi road some of the projects we couldn’t complete were abandoned. What kind of rivalry is this?

“They said they would not touch the road projects I couldn’t complete while leaving office. If you will not continue, is it your money? It’s the state money, why won’t you touch the projects.”
