Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a radio and television presenter for Wontumi FM in Kumasi, has been arrested by the Ghana Police Service in the Ashanti Region.
He faces charges, including the publication of false news, under Section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).
Asiedu was invited to the Ashanti Regional Police Command on November 23, 2024, where he was immediately taken into custody.
He is set to appear in court as preparations for his trial are underway.
The arrest stems from claims made by Asiedu, in which he allegedly encouraged voters to cast their ballots for presidential candidates on separate days during the upcoming December polls.
The Ghana Police Service has labelled these statements as false and warned that they could disturb public peace.
A statement from the police confirmed the arrest, noting that Asiedu would be brought before the court to face justice for his actions.
The statement noted “The Ghana Police Service, has today, 23rd November 2024, arrested suspect Oheneba Nana Asiedu, a Kumasi-based radio and television presenter, for offences including publication of false news contrary to section 208 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).”
“The suspect is currently in Police custody and the case will be presented before the court for him to face justice.”
