Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has come to the aid of 10-year-old Lisa Laryea, a student battling leukaemia, by covering the cost of her treatment and ensuring she receives the specialised care she needs.
After learning about Lisa’s condition, which has captured the attention and sympathy of many on social media, Mr. Mahama arranged for her to travel to South Africa for urgent treatment.
On Sunday, November 24, 2024, Lisa, accompanied by her mother, was flown to South Africa via a chartered Air Ambulance.
The total cost of the treatment, estimated at over $110,000 (approximately 2 million South African Rand), was fully covered by Mr. Mahama.
Mr. Ibrahim Mahama personally ensured that the medical journey went smoothly, attending the departure at Kotoka International Airport Terminal 2 to oversee the process.
Rafik Mahama, a special aide to Mr. Ibrahim Mahama, explained, “When we learned about Lisa’s condition on social media, we knew we had to step in and help. Every child deserves the opportunity to live a healthy and happy life. When it comes to saving human life, our Father and Boss, Mr. Ibrahim Mahama doesn’t consider the cost.
“He has unlimited empathy towards humanity. He gives the instructions to everyone and we work to make sure we get the job done properly. Because the flight was a 6 am scheduled chartered flight, I got to the Ridge Hospital at 3 am today, we wanted to make sure we get everything done properly, with regards to conveying Lisa from the hospital to the airport. The Doctors are on standby in South Africa. By God’s grace, Lisa will come back stronger”
Lisa’s family has expressed deep gratitude for Mr. Mahama’s life-changing support. Her mother, overcome with emotion, thanked the philanthropist, saying, “We never imagined that someone of his stature would care so deeply about our daughter’s health. He has given Melissa the gift of hope, and we will be forever grateful.”
This extraordinary act of kindness has not only provided hope for Lisa and her family but has also garnered widespread admiration and support from the Ghanaian public.
