I’m a ‘retired general’ to stabilise Ghana’s economy – Mahama

John Dramani Mahama, the Flagbearer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has drawn a parallel between his return to politics and a “retired army general” being called back to duty, as he seeks re-election in the upcoming 2024 general elections.

During a campaign stop in the Ashanti Region on Monday, December 2, 2024, Mahama addressed a gathering of district and municipal Imams.

In his speech, he acknowledged the country’s current challenges, particularly the economic difficulties and governance issues, and vowed to lead Ghana back to stability and prosperity.

“If we go to war, and we encounter difficulties, we go back to call the retired general to come back and lead us. This is a clear illustration of myself because I am a retired general and I went to rest, but it is time to come back for we are in a difficult period, so my party has nominated me to lead the party. I know that many of you pray for us and give us guidelines to follow. I thank every one of you for your prayers”.

He also expressed gratitude to the Imams for their prayers and guidance, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring better governance for the people of Ghana.
