Passenger traffic on domestic airlines is increasing as voters return home for the December 2024 elections.
In an interview with Channel One News, Captain Kwasi Oteng, Chief Operating Officer of Africa World Airlines, attributed the surge in air traffic to the election season and the upcoming festive period.
He assured the public of safe flights and the airline’s preparedness to meet demand, as all arrangements and precautions have been put in place.
According to industry players, in anticipation of an even greater spike in reservations as election day draws near, industry participants are stepping up their operations to satisfy the rising demand.
“The increase in passenger traffic has already started. In the past few weeks, we’ve seen a significant rise in domestic travel across the country. To manage this, we have made adjustments to our commercial schedule, which we are fine-tuning daily,” Oteng explained.
“Based on recent trends, we’ve adjusted our domestic schedule—for example, to Tamale, where we previously flew three times a day. We are now increasing that to five flights a day. For Kumasi, we’re increasing from six to eight flights a day.”
