I hope Mahama completes agenda 111 project – Akufo-Addo

President Nana Akufo-Addo has urged President-elect John Dramani Mahama to complete the agenda 111 hospital project, an initiative his administration couldn’t finish during the 8th Parliament.

In his final State of the Nation Address on Friday, January 3, 2025, Akufo-Addo highlighted the project’s progress, noting that out of 111 district hospitals and two psychiatric hospitals, 99 hospitals and two psychiatric hospitals are currently under construction.

Akufo-Addo emphasised the importance of completing the project to strengthen Ghana’s health infrastructure, particularly in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He expressed hope that the incoming Mahama administration would prioritize the project’s completion, ensuring that every district has access to quality healthcare.

He said, “This pandemic showed us the alarming shortcomings of our health sector and we strived to seek remedies to ensure that we are reasonably prepared to meet the next emergencies.”

“The most important intervention is the agenda 111 project that we have embarked upon that aimed to place a hospital in every district. Among 111 district hospitals and two psychiatric hospitals on the project list, we have 99 and two psychiatric hospitals where contractors were deployed, and work is in progress.”

“I had hoped the construction will be completed on all of them but that alas was not to be. I am hoping that the incoming Mahama administration will ensure that the project is completed, so we can have our health infrastructure in a sound state.”

Notably, President-elect Mahama has already pledged to complete abandoned hospitals and Agenda 111 projects.
