Flagbearer of Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has congratulated former U.S. President Donald Trump on his victory in the 2024 U.S. presidential election.

In a Facebook post, Mahama expressed optimism that Trump’s re-election would benefit not only the American people but also contribute to global peace, security, and economic growth.

He stated, “Congratulations, former President Donald J. Trump, on your re-election as President of the United States of America. I trust your re-election will bring greater prosperity to the American people and strengthen peace, security, and economic growth worldwide.”

Mahama’s message of congratulations follows Trump’s stunning comeback, as he defeated Vice President Kamala Harris to secure the 276 electoral votes required to win the presidency.

The former president’s victory was bolstered by key wins in battleground states such as Wisconsin, with vote counting still ongoing in several other states.

Trump’s return to the White House comes after his 2020 defeat to Joe Biden—a loss that Trump has never fully accepted.

Despite facing numerous legal challenges, including two presidential impeachments and a criminal conviction, Trump has now made history as only the second U.S. president to win two non-consecutive terms, following Grover Cleveland.

In his victory speech, Trump declared that his re-election marked the dawn of a “golden age for America,” while also celebrating the Republican Party’s projected success in securing control of the Senate.
