It was a difficult, but my people wanted change – A Plus reflects on election victory

Kwame Asare Obeng, also known as Kwame A Plus, the parliamentary candidate-elect for Gomoa Central, has shared the challenges he faced during his campaign, which ultimately led to his victory.

In an interview on GHOne TV, A plus acknowledged that the determination and eagerness of the electorate for change played a crucial role in his success.

According to him, he connected with the people, who were seeking a fresh approach after feeling neglected for years.

A Plus, running as an independent candidate, secured 14,277 votes out of 36,026 total valid votes cast, defeating the incumbent MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah of the NPP, who garnered 11,637 votes.

Ywason Mohamed of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) came in third with 10,112 votes, making A Plus’s first entry into Parliament.

He believes the electorate had already decided to vote for a change, and this determination was key to his success.

A Plus said, “it was a difficult task for me. These guys had a lot of money to spend. They have been in power for eight years and have run the constituency for eight years. She has a political structure that is the NPP, and I came in as an independent candidate.”

“I didn’t have a structure. I had to build the structure from scratch. But the difference between the people of Gomoa and the people of other constituency is that the people of Gomoa were looking for something new. They have been in darkness for long so even though it was difficult, the people made it work out”.
