Ghana’s President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has stated that his administration has accomplished about 80% of the goals set forth in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) manifesto.
Akufo-Addo, speaking during his visit to the Western North Region on Tuesday, November 5, mentioned the successes of his government and reaffirmed his commitment to continue serving the people of Ghana.
According to him, although not every promise has been fulfilled, majority have been successfully achieved.
The President specifically praised the impact of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, which has been a cornerstone of his administration.
He explained that the policy, since its implementation in 2017, more than 5.7 million students have benefitted from this initiative, gaining access to education that many could not afford before.
He emphasied this policy as a significant achievement of his leadership, while assuring the residents of Western North that his government is devoted to fostering national development, even in the face of various challenges.
He stated, “I wouldn’t stand before you and say I have delivered on all my promises. That will not be truthful, but I can confidently say that 80% of our manifesto promises, I have achieved that in the areas of education, health, road infrastructure, industrial transformation, agriculture, and cocoa.”
“In the first place, before I became the president, every year our children after graduating from the Junior High level, over 100,000 were not able to continue to SHS. Even when they passed, because of the financial challenges of their parents, they were unable to proceed.”
“So ten years – which means that over 1,000,000 kids are unable to proceed in their educational transition but today because of the Free SHS which started in 2017, to date the changes that have come to our educational system are dramatic.”
