Retain current leadership in 9th Parliament – Freddie Blay advises NPP

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has advised the party to maintain its current leadership in Parliament for the upcoming 9th Parliament.

Blay’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about who should represent the party as leader in the next Parliament.

Some have called for the continuation of Alexander Afenyo-Markin as Majority Leader, while others, including political analysts, have suggested that a new person should take on the role.

Speaking on GHOne TV’s Hard Talk, Blay expressed confidence in the current leadership, emphasising that the existing front bench has performed well during the 8th Parliament.

According to him, they are capable of effectively representing the party in opposition.

He said, “The front bench did well so far as I’m concerned. It’s part of the fact that it was a hung parliament, they did not encourage any constitutional crisis. Although we had challenges, I wouldn’t blame the front bench for provoking or inciting those crisis.”

“But we are now in opposition, they’ve done well in Parliament, Parliament will play a very significant role. So let’s keep the members that we have united and let’s keep the leadership as it is for now and see what happens next. I have a feeling they will represent us adequately and competently so we should leave it as it is.”
