Special Voting underway across selected polling stations in 14 regions

Special Voting is currently underway at selected polling stations across Ghana as part of preparations for the December 7 general elections.

This special exercise is intended for individuals who will play key roles on election day, allowing them to vote early so they can fulfill their duties without conflict. The Special Voting targets electoral officials, security personnel, and media representatives directly involved in the election process.

The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that approximately 131,478 people, representing 0.007% of the total 18,741,159 registered voters, are expected to participate in this exercise on December 2.

The voting is taking place in 14 of Ghana’s 16 regions, with the Eastern and Western Regions excluded.

This exclusion follows the EC’s decision to recall and reprint ballot papers after a security breach involving seals. Special voting in these two regions will now be held on Thursday, December 5.

EC Chairperson Jean Mensa, speaking at an Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, reassured the public about the transparency and efficiency of the voting process.

She emphasised the EC’s commitment to addressing concerns and ensuring a credible, free, and fair election.

The Special Voting runs from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at designated polling centers across the 14 regions. Eligible voters must present valid identification to participate.

Unlike regular voting, the ballots cast during Special Voting will not be counted immediately.

They will be securely stored and tallied on December 7 at the Constituency Collation Centres.

These results will then be recorded separately on the Presidential and Parliamentary Election Results Collation Forms before being integrated into the overall election results.
